Good Quote...

"When you pursue the heart of God and He becomes your focus and love, you aren't gonna want the things of the world because you know they don't please His heart. Live your life to please the heart of the Father. Don't live a life that is below your calling." - Lauren Barlow

I love that quote!! It fits perfectly with the season that I am in now! I hope you enjoyed it as well. Stay blessed! Merry CHRISTmas!!!

"So This Is Christmas"..

So it is Christmas time as you know, how wonderful it is! But you know it can be bittersweet when you are missing the ones you love for whatever reason.. death, broken relationship, fighting in the war, out of state, out of the Country, etc. Right now that's how it is for me. Two people I loved dearly are not on this earth any longer and it can be sad to think about now having them here to celebrate the life (and death and Resurrection) of our precious Savior. But I know that they must be having the most wonderful time in Heaven with Jesus Himself!

Any who, I have been thinking about this. It is kind of irritating that the only time it seems people are nice to one another and everyone gets along and everyone gives is during this time of the year. You can't go to a store without someone asking you if you want to donate to an organization. For clarification I have NO problem with people being nice or giving, that is great and is exactly what followers of Jesus should be doing not to earn God's love but because "faith without works is dead.", however it does sadden me that once Christmas is over and the high of giving is done and gone the world will go back to the way it was and all love and giving and stuff like that will be gone.. or will it?

See sometimes it's easy to be negative. It's easy to see the world and all it's problems.. but you know what? There is good around us too. The mother who though she has no money will be buying her child (or children) the best gifts she possibly can because she wants them to have hope. The family who has had their house burned down not once but twice in less than 30 days apart (yes really!) but is reminded that God works together for their good. The man in the hospital with leukemia who desperately needs healing (and prayers please!!) and will be spending Christmas in a hospital bed yet has all the hope and excitement for the future. These people have not only kept the faith but they are our future! These are the people of God who will change the world.  Will we join them? Will take over the world not for ourselves and not for others but for Christ?

This is truly one of the most wonderful times of the year. As tears fill my eyes it is not just tears of sorrow for the broken and the homeless and the hurting, but tears of joy for the future we have possible because of Jesus. Jesus is the reason for the season, not santa, not presents, not giving, not anything other than Him and who He is. He is enough for us! He is enough for you! And He is certainly enough for me. We have all we need in Him! Thank God!! Praise God!! Have a Merry CHRISTmas and spend time on that special day thinking of all He has done for us, I know I shall be doing so. :) God bless you all! I love you truly!!!

My Life..

So sorry for the blogging or lack thereof. I have been busy.. and distracted. God is good and He is faithful and even when my eyes are turned to the "right and to the left" (foolishly by the way) He is still there waiting for me. Not quite sure why but I am so thankful for His love.

So an update on life and what I have been learning.. let's start from here....
I have messed up. Time and time again. I have failed God over and over.. I felt hopeless for the last 2 weeks because I have been struggling so. I know, not the pretty "perfect" Christian life you would think, but this is real life because we have a real God and a real enemy who likes to "steal, kill, and destroy." And I have given in too much lately. I have asked for forgiveness, repented of my sin and I believe with all my heart that God has forgiven me and given me a fresh start.

So then I had a few distractions here and there, one being worldly things and the others have been.. boys. I know I know, I have posted several times on saying that I was going to be single for life because that's what I wanted, but now I am not sure. God will show me His will. As for now I am single and not looking. I am not sure who I am so how can I date someone and try and keep my morals and standards and such when I am still a little baby in Christ? Now I am trying hard to get back to being stuck to God like super glue. I have to spend more time with the Lord and keep my focus on Him. It is my top priority.. now. Before I had gotten lost again but God has found me and brought me back to Him and for that I am thankful.

So that's pretty much been my life for the past few weeks. I haven't posted in a while because I felt as though I had no right to tell people to live for God if I myself were struggling so. I'm here to tell you, we will have struggles as followers of Jesus but instead of running towards the world (as I did) run closer to Jesus and He will get you through!! Have a blessed night!!

Deuteronomy 31:6

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6

This verse brought me lots of comfort when I read it and when I think about it. I love knowing that God is always with me. :) He is with you too!!! Be blessed!

Receive It or Leave It

"We have to realize that we cannot earn or win anything from God; we must either receive it as a gift or do without it." - Oswald Chambers

I read this earlier in My Utmost For His Highest. I though whoa, how true is that?!  God is so faithful! In every single thing and He has been teaching me and showing me the last couple of days that there is absolutely nothing I can do to earn His love and grace and forgiveness. It really is either take it or leave it. That's not to say that we should do whatever we want because God will love us anyway because to show our love for Him we must follow Him and His Word, but there isn't anything we can do to earn this love at all.

I had it all wrong, thinking that if I did enough right things God would love me more and that if I failed Him then He would stop loving me and stop forgiving. God has been showing me that I don't know Him as well as I thought I did. He is slowly showing me more and more who He really is. I'm going back through the basics with Him.. sort of having a refreshers course.

Anyway, I just want to tell you that wherever you have been whatever you have done, God loves you! He loves you and wants to forgive you. He longs for you. Repent from your sins and tell Him that you want Him too and then what must we all do? Live our lives for Him and Him alone because at the end of it all He is truly all we have and all that matters. How will you live your life? Who will you live it for? My prayer is that you will take this journey too and live for Christ! Have a blessed night!

Micah 6:8

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8

These words brought me comfort and showed me that maybe following Christ isn't easy, but it does have a simplicity to it. Praise the Lord! :) Have a blessed night!

All The Single Ladies!!!!!!

Hey guys sorry to exclude you but God has put on my heart something for all my girls out there. :)

Girls - I just need to tell you what I have been thinking about and really what God has placed on my heart.
So many of our girls out there are giving themselves away and selling themselves short. Why? Because they want a boyfriend. I've been there too. Seeing all your friends with a guy on their arm and wishing that you could have that too. Then I realized that I had let my focus off of Christ and onto the world.

If you are meant to be married God will provide that man. There is a quote that I just love, "Dance with God and He will let the perfect man cut in." How true is that?!! Ladies, you don't have to go looking for a guy. God will provide for all your needs (physical and emotional). Just trust Him and let Him do the work.

You do not need a man to feel good about yourself or define yourself. Find your identity in the Lord and not in other people or things. I think it is so much easier to wait until you are found in God and have matured before you start dating and stuff. That is my personal opinion not anybody else's so do with it what you will. I just don't like seeing people getting taken advantage of because they wanted to be accepted or be "cool".

I love y'all and hope you have a really blessed Wednesday!!! :)

The Perfect Stranger

What would you ask Jesus if you sat down to dinner with Him?

I just finished reading Dinner With A Perfect Stranger. And in that book Nick (one of the main characters) sat down to a lovely dinner with Jesus. It was such a great book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I found myself nodding my head and agreeing with the questions and answers in this book.

I was wishing that I could sit there and have dinner with Jesus like that and then I realized I can. Of course I won't be able to see Him physically with my eyes, but with my heart I can. :)

Any who, I would recommend this book for anyone. It's only 100 pages and it definitely was not a waste of any of those pages. It's one of those books that leaves you wanting more. For sure go and find this book! It will not be a waste of time or money! Have a blessed weekend!!! :)

I Will Care!

"Will you care?"

These words have haunted me for probably 4 weeks. Do I care? Will I care? Why don't I care? Care for what, you might be wondering. For people. For doing God's will. For living my life, not for myself, but for Him. Mainly though, about people. I pass people everyday (or almost every day) and yet I don't really care about them.

God has been changing this in me. I've started to look at people and not pity them but have compassion for them. I want to be there for these people whether I know them or not. I want to look at them and see their beauty for they are created in our Father's image. I want to hear what's going on in their lives... where they are at. I want to truly care for them and not just live this mediocre life. I am told by God's Word to be His hands and feet and to shepard His flock and help people see Him and shine the Light, but do I do that? No. Why? Because it's too hard? Because it doesn't really matter to me?

God has been changing me. Now when I see people, I'm not looking for the messed up life (because really no one has it all together) I'm looking for the person to see who they really are and what they want and dream. I want to see their passions and I want to know if they know Jesus, because if they don't they are missing out and it is up to us to let them know. God will always show Himself to every single person on this earth. It depends on if that person is looking. You never know, maybe God wants to use you to show Himself to someone. It's time to take up our Cross and live for Him and do what He has told us and called us to do. It is time to get out of ourselves and more in love with Jesus. I am an example. Whether you know it or not, you are too. We are always an example of someone; whether it be Jesus or satan. Who will you be an example of?

Last night I read in this book that we can never really love without God. Why? Because we are incapable of fully and completely loving without Him. Only when He comes to live in us are we able to love truly. I thought that was just Awesome! How great our God truly is! I finish with this, will you care? Will you shine the Light? Will you stand for Jesus Christ when no one else will? These are the questions I ask myself. Lets rock this world for Jesus!!! Have a blessed Thursday!

Flawed As Can Be

I wish I could say I have the perfect life. That I never make mistakes and that my flaws never get the best of me. I probably could say that and maybe you'd never know the difference, but for the sake of keeping it real I simply cannot say that.

Gosh, I fail every single day. I disappoint God sometimes by the choices I make. Thank the Lord for His love and mercy which always sustains me and brings me back to Him. I am not perfect by ANY means. I am not the perfect Christian, perfect daughter, perfect friend, etc. I am flawed. I am foolish. I sin. Yet I'm saved. Why? Because God loves me and wants me. He wants you too, I wish I could make you believe that.

You know what I've learned? I can be my flawed, imperfect self, and Jesus still loves me. He wants me. He wants me to be obedient to Him and even when I disobey, He still loves me. Wow! That rocks my world! I've been living as if I must be perfect. That somehow my "works" will get me to Heaven or that Jesus will love me more if I'm more... presentable. I was foolish. I thank God for His grace. Where would I be without it? "I am who I am by grace." - Paul

I want to let you know that no matter how far in a hole you may be, how messed up you may be or how "ugly" your life may look, Jesus will and does accept you just as you are! Let's be real, we are all stinkin' hot messes in need of a Savior. We are loved so much by God that Jesus, His Son, went to the Cross for us! That makes me want to fall down before the throne right now! Just remember it is not too late to live for Jesus. Give Him your life and He will do amazing things through it. I know! Stay blessed!

In Search of Eden

I finished reading In Search of Eden last night. Wow! This was an amazing book! I have read 2 of her books now and both have been completely worth while.

This story is about a woman who is in search of her daughter that she had given up for adoption when she was a teenager. It is also about a man who is angry with his brother and his wife (you'll find out why when you read the book ;) ) It takes you through the journey of him finding forgiveness and the woman finding Love.

It was a really great book and this is for those out there who love reading a good thriller with romance and telling people about God and finding Him. You can get this book at Amazon which is where I bought it. It is so good and I really recommend it.

Hope you all have a really blessed weekend!!!

Happy Veterans Day!

Happy Veterans day!!! I pray that yours is amazing and that you take time to pray for our soldiers past and present.

To everyone who has fought for our Country I personally want to thank you for doing what you have and continue to do. I would not be free to do anything if it we're for you and I thank God for you all the time. I pray for y'all and your families a lot and I pray that today you are honored and know how much you mean to everyone. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

LOVE yourself, LOVE others!

The Bible tells us to love others as we love ourselves. We can't really do that if we don't love ourselves, right? I see so many people, girls and guys alike, who can't stand what they see in the mirror. They don't understand that God made them the way they are and that they are beautiful.

I've been there before. I used to hate myself. I used to hate the way I looked. I asked myself why I couldn't be skinny like all the girls I hung out with or why I couldn't have their hair, or skin, or whatever. It was one of the toughest times of my life. But soon God began showing me that He made me fearfully and wonderfully (Psalm 139) and that what He sees is lovely. I learned that I am made in His image. So are you. Stop listening to the world. Hollywood likes to tell people how they should talk, walk, look, etc. We're supposed to be ourselves, not someone else. Do you realize how boring it would be if you were like everybody else? If you looked like the people around you? It's our differences that make life interesting.

Whoever YOU (yep, you!) are that's reading this I want to remind you that Jesus accepts you just as you are. In His timing He will change you from the inside out, but all you have to do it let Him. Learn to accept your "flaws". Learn to embrace your...
* big feet,
* crazy hair,
* loud laugh,
* freckles everywhere,
* chubby face,
* crooked teeth,
* squinty eyes.

God has made you uniquely in His image. Your flaws are what make you, you! Don't be afraid embrace them! I am so much more joyful knowing that even though I might be loud, or weird, or uncool, or whatever that Jesus still accepts me as I am. Now I can fully and completely love the people around me. I think part of the problem with the world is that the church is told to love others as themselves, but the truth is is that others don't love themselves so how can they possibly love someone else? Love Jesus. Love yourself. Love others.

Have a blessed day! :)

"In Deed and In Truth"

"But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in Him?.. My little children, let us not love in word and tongue, but in deed and in truth." (NKJV) 1 John 3:17-18

I love those verses! I read them yesterday and it just makes me excited and ready to do God's will and follow His commandments! :) I was thinking about them and how a lot of people say the Bible is not relevant with today.. oh really? Because I can promise you there are a lot of people out there who claim to follow Christ and don't fill the needs that they see. I think that part of God's will is for us to see the needs in other people's lives and fill them. How can we truly say we follow Christ and yet not care that our brother or sister is suffering or having problems. We aren't supposed to look the other way or say "well somebody will help them." We must help them ourselves.

It's so easy to love "in word and tongue" but to love "in deed and in truth" is a lot harder. So which love is true? The love that is harder because in order for us to truly love we must be willing to go through the hardest, most exhausting trial, difficulty, whatever; in order to completely love. Or love completely. :)

I have been guilty of soo many times saying that I love my brothers and sisters or saying that I am Christian and will do whatever for Christ and not doing. "Talk is cheap." Whoever said that was on to something. Talk is very cheap. I can say whatever I want to and not mean it. It is only when I back it up with my actions and life that it is true. Not only in the journey of life, but also in my walk with Christ which is the journey to life. I can tell the Lord I want to do what He wants me to do, but if I continue to walk in my own ways then it's just talk. I pray that God will help me to truly love and be an example and not simply talk, but to walk in His ways and commandments and back up what I claim and believe.

This week I am going to look for the needs in others lives and if there is any way possible, fill those needs. I serve a God of the impossible. I no longer pay attention to what the world says is and isn't possible, I know that my God can do whatever He wants in my life. He can do the same in yours. I choose to care. I choose to care about others and what is going on in their life. Will you? I hope you will. Have a blessed Monday!

No Matter What

No matter what God is there for you and He has a plan. When the whole world seems to turn their back on You, Jesus is still by your side. He died on the Cross for You so that you could live for Him and love Him as He loves you.

I know sometimes you want to fit in and be "cool" but sometimes the hippest thing to do is not always the best thing for you. God doesn't want you happy. He likes it when your happy but that is not what He wants. He wants what is best for you and I hope you know that and understand that.

I want to remind today that God loves you more than anything! I want you to know that there is nothing that you can do that can keep Him from loving you. Turn from your ways and live for Him. His grace is sufficient for you! God has a plan for You so stand strong and keep your faith no matter what!! Why? Because no matter what HE LOVES YOU!!!!! Stay blessed!

We NEED To Be Disciples!

So I have been learning about what it means and looks like to be disciple of Jesus Christ. I never thought much about it or what it looks like and certainly didn't really think there was a difference between a Christian and a disciple... but it seems there is a difference. Maybe it shouldn't be that way, however it is.
See we as followers of Jesus have been taught the usual when it comes to sharing Jesus, tell them about Him, ask them if they want to accept Him into their heart, and if they do then pray with them and be on your merry way. If they don't then you have at least planted a seed. And all of that is great, really, but looking at Jesus and how the disciples lived their lives that really isn't fulfilling God's will and way for letting the whole world know about Him.

God has been showing me so many things regarding this and continues to bring examples into my life. Looking throughout the Bible I see people who pursued others while they were pursuing God. This is what I want and desire to do. Oh my heart yearns to be such a Light that people no longer see me, but see Jesus in me. I want my life, my words, my example to scream "I love Jesus!!!". I want to be a disciple. This will take sacrifice and lots of heart and passion for God, but I believe that in Him I can do all things.

Going back to pursuing others, when we tell someone about the Lord we need to stick with it. Or in other words, stick with them. If they accept Christ we can help them find a Bible based Church that fits them well, we can find a need in their life and fill it. Sometimes I think people initially accept Christ when witnessed to, but I think sometimes maybe they end up looking at their life and feeling discouraged because they have their old life to deal with, they'll probably need to get some new friends who can support them in their walk with Jesus as that person supports them in theirs. They probably will feel lonely because it's really hard to go it alone, God tells us that it isn't good for man to be alone and I believe that aside from marriage, God was also telling us that we need people around us to support us and help us along.

I'm challenging myself to reach out to people and not only tell them about Jesus, but also be a friend to them. We must be careful to make sure we don't befriend someone who isn't real about loving and living for God and end up getting ourselves dragged down to their level (because remember you can never pull a person up, but they can pull you down). Feel free to join me in this challenge and mission as we through Christ take over the world for Jesus!! :) Have a blessed week!!!

At The Scent of Water

I just finished reading 'At the Scent of Water' by Linda Nichols. Wow!! This book is 416 pages of pure book bliss! :) Yeah, it's long, but it is so good I don't think you'll even notice.

It took me about 2 weeks to  read this book. I used to really not like Christian fiction, but it has grown on me so much and this book is one of the best you can find out there! Linda takes you on a journey with two main characters (Sam & Annie) and how sometimes sorrow and tragedy may draw us apart for a while, but if we allow God to heal our hearts, it will draw us together. I laughed during this book, cried during this book, got angry and wished they would see the Truth, and had so many crazy emotions.

I really encourage you to pick up this book. It's one of those books that will leave you with that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. :) So go find this book at your Christian book store or library and if they don't have it request it! Have a blessed, relaxing Sunday!!! If you need prayer for anything at all just leave a comment and I'll pray for you! :)

Re-Fresh Me!!!

Oh my goodness! I have had a wonderful week!! Yes, I have. It has only gotten better. :) Wanna know why? Well, even if you don't I'm telling you because I feel like a fresh me!! Yes, God is good all the time and all the time God is good and He does work together for the good of those who love Him.

The past few months I have been struggling with temptation and sin. It's hard to say no sometimes. And I kept praying and saying oh, Lord, please help me with this and then when He was doing that I looked the other way and kept doing what I was doing. I know, I was wrong. Well, Jesus set me free today!! Err.. maybe I should rephrase that, I allowed Jesus to set me free. Not that I am anything (I am a nobody when it comes down to it ;) but as I was reading My Utmost for His Highest devotional today Oswald Chambers was talking about how we here the Lord telling us to come to Him and we do whatever we can not to, so we can continue living life the way we have been.

I just had to let y'all know that God has set me free and He can set you free too!!!! There is nothing He cannot do for He is God!!! :) God has refreshed me. My prayer is that you will as I have surrender to Him and allow Him to re-FRESH you!! It's so worth it (it meaning giving Him your life and allowing Him to have His way in you)! Have a blessed weekend!!!

The Mealer Brothers

I watched this video tonight on E:60 and I was so blessed by it. Truly with God, all things are possible. Remember, this guy was told that he had a 1 % chance of walking again, he has beaten the odds. How? Because of God.

Keep your eyes on Him and hanging tight to Him. With Him all things are possible!! :) Stay blessed!

My Dream...

I remember this dream from a couple weeks ago.. it has haunted me almost.. kept me thinking and also challenging me.. continue reading to find out about it.

We were walking to the grocery store. Pretty routine, just going to get groceries, pick up a few things. Then, I saw this pretty oriental girl. She looked kinda hard on the outside, but something told to me to go talk to her, so without hesitation I walked through the parking lot to where she was sitting and sat down next to her.

She said hi and I returned it with, "hey, how are you?". We talked for a few minutes and then I just abruptly asked her, "Do you know Jesus?" and she said, "No, I've never heard of Him.". I asked her is she would like to know Him and she said yes. Minutes later she was accepting Christ into her life and we said goodbye and then walked away.

Then the next day it turned out she has been in a car accident and killed. This made me sad and when I went to the funeral every one was talking about how she was changed by God and that they could tell it even in such a short period of time and how perfect God's timing was that she would come to know Him before she died. Then I woke up.

This dream shook me to the core because I could tell this was God telling me to not be afraid or ashamed to tell people about Him because we never know what will happen after we walk away.

Thank You Lord, for showing me the Light and Your way.
Thank You, for revealing to me what I need to work on.
Help me and the people who read this to shout to the people around who You are.

Stay blessed!

I finished reading Radical by David Platt a couple days ago. Wow.. where do I start with this book? It's a wonderful book with a lot of good points. I will say that there were a few things in this book that I did not agree with. That's just part of every one having their own opinion. We are all entitled to one. :) There were just a few things that when I think about them I don't exactly see eye to eye with what he is saying.

It took me about 2 months to read this book. Not because I am slow reader, but because this is one of those book that you need to take your time with. It's a book that you need to break down piece by piece and really think about what David is saying and talking about.

David wrote this book to talk about what we as the body of Christ need to do... what we need to be. It's very true that the Church needs to step it up and actually do what we always claim we are doing. It's a lovely challenge that David offers. This is a wonderful book and I would encourage you to read it. Keep in mind that there are some things that I disagree with so just don't soak up every thing he says and make that your opinion. You may agree completely with what he says and that is totally fine just don't accept every thing right off the bat without first comparing it to God's Word.

Have a wonderful Sunday! :)

Oh Sweet Joy!!!

I love God! I am not afraid nor ashamed to say that to anyone. There is a joy that is so amazing I want people to know about it. I get afraid sometimes to say things about Jesus to them because I'm afraid of how they might react, but the joy God has brought me in my life is so incredible how can I not tell someone about it?!

I want you to experience the joy God can bring to you. If you don't know Him I want you to. If you want a change that will absolutely rock your world then I know what you need and that is Jesus! There is a prayer on the side of my blog in pink if you would like to pray that. Once you have asked Jesus Christ to come into your life, He ever present in your heart forever! :) That is so exciting! I would encourage you to get into a good Bible based church that you like, if you don't like or even love it, then you won't go so be sure to find a place you feel welcomed! And make sure that you spend some time with Jesus every day because just going to Church Sunday and Wednesday is never going to help you grow in the Lord.

Enjoy the joy that surpasses all joys!! Remember that God works for your good as long as you live for Him!! Have a blessed Wednesday!! :)

Time To Do It

I was prompted to write this post after reading through a couple articles this afternoon.

Our comfort zones hold us back so much don't they? I mean seriously my comfort zone is so small I can barely move in it. It's unbelievably small and unrealistic to try to live in. God wants us to move out of our  small comfort boxes and into uncomfortable, socially awkward places. Why? Not because He wants to punish us and make us feel really uncomfortable, but because we will never fully live life if we are afraid to do something that may not be easy for us.

The Lord has called us to sacrifice everything. Sacrificing in it's truest form is never easy to do.. that's why it's called sacrifice, but God promises us that it will be very rewarding. People love to live life on the edge, but it's funny how when it comes down to living life completely on the edge, every one is scared to do it. Myself included.

Last night when I was reading a book the guy who wrote it was talking about just going out and doing it even when it frightens us and make us feel uncomfortable because in the end it will all be worth it. So my challenge to you today and for myself is to just go out and do it! It is always scary the first time you do something you've never done before, but when you follow God's will with all your heart when it's really scary, God has something really wonderful for us at the end of that. The Lord's plan for your life surpasses anything we could ever dream of because God has a mind that is beyond anything we can think or anything we can do. Just go out and do it! Whatever the Lord is leading you to just go and do it! You will be blessed by it!

Thank You, Lord!

"Thank You, Lord!!" Is what I say when I get what I want. However too many times do I spend my time complaining instead of praising. God has blessed beyond what I could dream of and continues to do so each and every day, but still even when I don't get what I want I should still thank God. Why? Because the Lord works together for the good of those who love Him. God works for our good, yours and mine, so even when we don't get what we want we need to remember that that's because God has a plan that is way better than ours ever could be.

Any who, what I want today is to be thankful instead of complaining about what doesn't go my way because at the end of the day I am so stinking blessed it's stupid to focus on the negatives instead of the positives. So today I am thankful for everything God has given me. I am thankful for...

  • God
  • today
  • my family
  • my friends
  • my blog friends ;)
  • having a home
  • having food to eat and clothes, etc.
  • being able to enjoy life
What are you thankful for? Spend some time today just thinking about how you've been blessed. It really does wonders for attitude problems! :) Have a great Thursday!!!

Becoming Like Them

"I have become all things to all men that I might by all means save some." (NKJV) 1 Corinthians 9:22

I read that verse last night and I've heard pretty much all my life, but never really thought about what Paul was saying. However, last night I did. I thought and thought about what he was saying and God revealed to me what he meant.

See Paul was spreading the Gospel EVERY WHERE and ran into a lot of different people and cultures. I like to think of it in today's terms. If you took a pastor from an old country church and took him to the youth of today (teens and college students) some of them might get saved, but the majority probably wouldn't. Why? Because to them that man is not relevant. Not saying that God can't use a man like that to help save some college students because God can do anything, but because we are the way we are it's just not relevant to us.

So what Paul was saying is that he became just enough like them that he could become relevant to them and they would come to Christ. We have to be careful about doing that though, because if we get into the world we might fall in our faith in Jesus Christ.

I think this weekend we should find some way to reach someone who is completely polar opposite to us.Whether it be someone who listens to heavy metal and you listen to pop or maybe someone who way into sports and you just really aren't. Find a way to reach someone and become relevant enough (without sacrificing your soul) to them to introduce them to Jesus Christ. Together we can change this world through and for Jesus - the Savior of the world and of yours and my life! Have a blessed Saturday!!

I Remember...

Today we remember September 11th. We remember the men and women who lost their lives. I bet you remember exactly where you were when someone told you what was happening. I know I do.

I know it's game day and every one is probably going to be going to or watching their favorite football team, but let's not forget that it's because of brave men and brave women that we are free to do whatever we want. We as a Country are very blessed. Let's not forget those families that lost their loved ones and let's say a prayer for them.

Thank you - to the men and women who fight/fought for all of our freedom! I cannot thank you enough. We are so blessed to have people like you who are willing to leave everything behind to stand up for the USA.

Remember sometime today the people who died on this day 9 years ago and the people that have died to defend our Country since then. Say a prayer for our troops and their family.

God Bless America!!!! Have a great Saturday!!!

What We Stand For, Not Against!!

I'm sure you've heard about the Florida pastor who wants to burn the Quran on the date of September 11th. Several threats have come through saying that if he does that then our troops will be put in danger because of that. Now he is saying that he won't do it, as long as they move the Mosque that is planned to be put near the 9/11 site.

I'm not a believer in "as long as we all have the same ground rules it doesn't really matter what religion we have because we'll go to the same place" at all, but I believe that we are to love every one regardless of what they believe in. I'm also not a supporter of this Mosque that might be put near the 9/11 site.

Mark Hall of Casting Crowns got it completely right the other day when he put on twitter this:
"Burning the Quran? Why? The world is quite aware of what we are AGAINST. What they need to know is what we are FOR."

We can't justify this. Jesus told us to love our enemies. He told us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. How does this do that? How does burning the Quran show love? It doesn't. I want to show the world the Light and Love of Jesus Christ. I want them to know that the only way they can get to Heaven is by believing in Him. I'm well aware that people all over the earth burn Bible's, but why stoop to their level? Aren't we wanting and desiring to show them that Jesus is real and active and alive and He is different from all their other so-called "gods"? Then, this is not the answer and it does not help one bit.

Earlier today Mark Hall said this, "Burning Quran in protest - not wise. Speak truth in love - Good." That's right. There is a way to tell a person that Jesus is the only Way, Truth, and Life in a way that glorifies God and doesn't get so... crazy.

I'll end this post with this, show people God's love through yours words and actions. Show people what you are for and against through your words and actions. When you think about telling somebody something picture that person as Jesus. It definitely changes your point of view (and probably what you'll say ;) ). Have a blessed night!!

I'm Human!!

Haha! I have been listening to this song a  lot the past few days. It's called "Human" and it's by Natalie Grant. The video below will rock your socks off!! I was watching the Dove Awards that night and this performance was by far my favorite! Jordin Sparks is a very talented girl as is Natalie Grant. Check it out:

Have a blessed Thursday night!!! Hope you enjoyed the video!! :)

The Meaning of Courteous

Courteous -
Definition: marked by respect for consideration of others.

I was thinking about this earlier and thought I'd share. :) Recently I got to go to a ball park with some people from a church. It was a lot of fun and of course while we were there people got tons of food. That's totally fine, except when we got up there was food, wrappers, napkins, etc. all over the place. I was a little shocked that they made such a mess and didn't even bother to clean it up. I thought about the poor guy that had to clean up all that mess. Made me sad. Where was their courtesy?

I'm not trying to judge them or anything I just know that we are representing Christ and when we do things like that ( we as followers of Jesus) it doesn't represent Him very well. There is a problem with that, but to me the saddest thing is that not a person told them to pick up their trash and put it in the garbage. I didn't bother to clean it up, mainly because I saw how many of them ate and didn't want to get that on my hands since I had no way to wash them (ever seen a load of guys eat french fries and pretzels, and snow cones, and ice cream? yeah, not always a pretty picture! lol Side not - I don't think all guys eat this way, just some ;) ) Anywho, I read this quote earlier -

"If a man be gracious and courteous to strangers it shows he is the citizin of the world." - Francis Bacon

How great is that?! I think that is such a good quote because really it is so true. Being courteous is what I want to focus this post on, but being gracious is just as important as being courteous. I don't know if one is more important than the other, I feel like they should be equally important to us because they really are equally important. This week I want to strive to be gracious and courteous. How about we as followers of Christ start living our life out the way He intended for us to live it? Will you join me in this challenge? I hope so! :)

Some ways we can be gracious this week:
  • Do something for other people and not expect something in return
  • Forgive that person that you've been holding a grudge with for so long
  • Show the love of Christ to someone that hasn't been kind to you
Some ways we can be courteous this week:
  • Pick up and clean up after ourselves (and others)
  • Thank the people who do jobs that no one else wants and never get thanks for it
  • Help someone who is overloaded with things to do, with the things they need done
These are the things we should be doing every day. I feel so convicted when I think back on all the times when God gave me opportunities to be a good example of Him and help others and I didn't. By God's grace though, that is going to change! :) I'm so excited to start living my life the way God intended for me to. I pray you will begin to live your life the way the Lord wants you to as well. Have a blessed day!! Also, if anyone has a prayer request leave me a comment and I definitely will pray for you! :)

Happy Labor Day!!

         Happy Labor Day!!!

:) Hope yours is really blessed and that you are having the best day ever!! Enjoy your day off! Spend some time grilling out (so much fun :), sitting outside, spending time with Jesus, spending time with family and friends, and being thankful for your day of rest! Hope you all had a great weekend, I know I did especially since college football is back! ;)

Also, please be praying for our soldiers and their families as I'm sure they would love to be together on this Labor Day. Thank you guys!! Have a blessed day!!

Enjoy The Beauty

Do you ever just get so busy that you hardly notice anything around you? I know I do. Something God has been telling me is to stop and look around and enjoy His beauty.

The past few nights I've been able to look at the stars and the moon and it has just been absolutely incredible to look at. I love looking at the stars and it really just blows my mind that the God who created them and the universe also created me and He loves me so much. He loves you too! :)

I just want to remind you to slow down some time today or tonight and enjoy the beauty around you. The sky, the trees, the people, the plants, the animals, the sun, the stars, the moon, the sunrise, or the sunset. Whatever it is, enjoy it and remember that the God who made these beautiful things made you as well! :) Have a blessed day!! Happy looking!

The Gospel of... Me??

Well, first let me start this post off by saying yay for September 1st!! :) It won't be long before the fall is here which is a lot of fun. I really love fall, the colors are sooo beautiful, the clothes are fun ;), the weather is great, it's just so wonderful! :) One of the main reasons I love the weather in the fall is because it's warm during the day and cool during the night. It's the best of both worlds! LOL

Okay now let's talk about what I've been learning. I've been reading Radical by David Platt the last couple weeks and I really have been learning a lot from God through that book. I'm not gonna lie, there have been things that I've had to look at objectively because I've never heard it put in this or that way, but all in all I think most of what he says is very true.

What I learned recently was that we as followers of Christ have turned the Gospel into something that is about us. Yes, God loves us, and yes, God allowed His Son to die on the Cross for us so that we can not only have eternal life, but also to be able to come before the Lord as we are. However, why do we have salvation? To accept eternal life and live for Him. Our main goal in life should be living for the King. So many times I get it all wrong, thinking that as long as Jesus loves me and I love Him it's all good. That's good and all, but that's not following the Word of God. Jesus told us before He left the earth that we are to, "make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to carry everything I have commanded you." -Matthew 28:19&20 I think my mission has gotten messed up somewhere along the way. It has become about me - my wants, my desires, my dreams, etc. not God's wants, God's desires, and God's dreams.

Today I'm getting back to my mission of wanting what the Lord wants, desires, and dreams for my life so that I might further His name and His Kingdom. I pray you will too. We with the help of the Almighty Father can change the world for Jesus Christ. How Awesome is that?! Have a blessed Wednesday!! :)

Feelings and "Feel Good"

So many Christians these days tend to build and base their faith on feelings. We're hear things such as, "I'm fired up for Jesus!" and think that's how your faith is supposed to be.

I've spent quite a bit of time thinking about this and writing a post about it and I felt like today was the day. :)

I just finished reading this article and was pretty much shaking my head yes the whole time. Not that there aren't teenagers in the world who do have a true relationship with Jesus, but these days it really is a lot about feelings and there really isn't a very accurate picture of who God is and Who we serve. I've found that a lot people do think that God wants us to be happy and He only wants whatever we want. However that is not true. God wants what is best for us and sometimes that means that we won't be happy for a while. The Word tells us that the Lord disciplines us because He loves us, not because He wants to punish us, but because He, the God of the Universe, the One who made you and me, LOVES US!!! How truly Awesome is that?! I stand in awe of God because to think that He would pick me to love... wow it absolutely will bring you to your knees.

God gives us feelings for a reason, but our feelings are never meant to be what we base our lives off of or our faith on. I mean, if you're like me then your emotions are up and down all the time. If I were to base my relationship with Christ on feelings then I probably wouldn't have that great of a relationship with Him.

I just want to remind you, brother or sister, that if you're not having a "mountain top" experience right now that is totally okay. Why? Because your faith is completely different from your feelings. Even when you can't feel God, He's there. Be patient and wait on Him because God has a plan for you. As followers of Jesus lets have an authentic faith that people know we have been (and are) with Jesus Christ. Have a really blessed day!!

We Can Be One

"One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God." Romans 14:5-6

Recently I have been studying Romans and I've been reading Romans 14 for the last two days (definitely check it out, it's such a great chapter!) and I read the above verse and immediately God began speaking to my heart.

What God began showing me and speaking to me is that we as the body of Christ today have destroyed the work of God (vs. 20) because of differences. Isn't that silly? Over something that all of us have; differences. Some people think it's a sin to dance and sing to music and others (including myself ;) see no sin in that (especially since David loved to sing and dance before the Lord, check out the Psalms!) regardless of whether it is or it isn't, if we are all serving the Lord in what we do what does it matter?

I've allowed separations between myself and other brothers and sisters over stupid things that we don't see eye to eye on. We get too caught up in the look of things and never even think to look at the person's motives and their hearts before we start to judge. 1 Samuel tells us that the Father doesn't look at the outward appearance, but He looks at the heart. Why don't we follow that example?

I am challenging myself this week to stop looking at outward appearances and simply look at their heart, the type of person they are. The heart really does say it all. How about you? Will you join me in this? I believe that the body of Christ can be joined together as one (as it is meant to be) if we will look past our differences and see that we all have one thing in common or rather One person/God in common and that is Jesus. It's so amazing that even though we are all different we can still be one body of believers. That makes me smile. :) Have a blessed Monday!!! Praise the King!!

You Make Me Wanna Dance!!

Okay so I was reading Bianca's blog today and saw this amazing video that seriously will make you wanna dance! ;) Check it out :

Isn't that so fun!?! It is so amazing the things and people God uses for His glory! The video was done when Bianca went on a trip to Kenya and it took 16 teens, 5 dancers, 2 music stars, and 1 producer to get it all together. Of course that is along with a Giant God who has giant plans for those who will listen and be obedient to Him. :) Have a blessed Tuesday!!

Crazy Love

I finished reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan is was one incredible book. I mean, God opened my eyes to what it really means to follow Him. I was so wrong in what I thought it meant to be His true follower.

I was so convicted while reading that book because it was a huge wake up call to see the things in my life that aren't what God wanted or intended. It definitely wasn't just reading a book it was almost like an experience with the Lord.  No, it was an experience with the Lord. I feel like I'm growing in my relationship with Him because now I can actually see what it means to be a follower of Him.

I would really encourage any Christian who wants the lies that they have been fed by others revealed, to read this book. If you want to be challenged and really live your life for Christ then this book will definitely help. I pray that God opens your eyes to so much while you read this book and through your everyday life.

Have a really blessed Wednesday!! Chase after God, He is chasing after you!! :) Always remember God has a plan in every single thing. He loves you SO much... more than you will ever know!!

Hang On!!

Not totally sure how to start this post. I haven't posted a while. Why? You may ask, well because I suffered a loss in my family. One of my grandparents died. I am still getting over the fact that their not here anymore. It's crazy!

I was really upset for a few days (and still have a few sob sessions here and there), but I know that they are with Jesus and there is no more suffering or pain or anything. They are happy with our Savior!!

During this trying time God has shown me a few things and I am placing all my trust in Him, for where else could I place my trust? Like James says I will rejoice and be happy in my trials for they produce perseverance, character, and hope.

If you are going through something like this I want you to remember that God is right by your side no matter what! If you love God, He has great plans for you like no eye has seen or ear has heard or minds can fully know 1 Cor. 2:9. Hang onto His promises, they are all we truly have.

Hang on, God is up to something so stand strong in Him and cling to His Word. Stay blessed!

Since the death of my good friend I've been thinking a lot. God has been teaching me a lot. Don't you just love how after something like this has happened somehow my ears are opened a bit more to His voice?! Maybe it just takes something like this for me to listen.

Anyways, so when someone dies, it makes the people around them think about it as well. So of course that is one thing I have been thinking about. Where would I go if I died right now? What would people say about me? What the Lord say about the way I lived my life? Well, I started reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan and I have just realized that I haven't truly been living my life for God. I've been kinda living for Him, but in all honesty I have been lukewarm. Over and over and over again I've read that verse in Revelation about being spit out of God's mouth if I am lukewarm and yet that didn't stop me from being that way.

The truth is, is that I haven't fully surrendered my life over to Him. At first I thought I had, but I was just lying to myself... and to God (who by the way already knows all, so I really don't know why we think we can cover things up ;) and I am ashamed to say that I haven't been living my life for Him the way He tells us to in His Word.

Actually I've started studying His Word more and in depth and I've realized that if I'm truly living my life the way His Word says to, my life will look way more different from how it looks now.

All this to say that God is changing me. He is showing me how to live my life for Him and how to actually put my faith into action, which according to the Book of James, is the only way you can really have faith. Think about it, if we really believe what we say we believe, then it won't be that we are doing things to get to Heaven (because it's only through Jesus Christ that we get to Heaven), but that we are doing things for others because we believe and we follow and we live what the Lord says.

If you were to die right now, where would you go? I think it's time for us to start living our lives so radically that we don't even have to open our mouths to say we know Jesus, our lives will scream, "I LOVE Jesus!!!". Let's start put our faith into action and loving God with all our hearts, minds, soul, and strength. It will take a lot of sacrificing, but our lives will be so much more worth living that way when we die on earth, but live in Heaven with Jesus! Amen! :) Have a really blessed Sunday!

That is how I feel right now, stunned. Absolutely and totally stunned. Why? Because one of my nearest and dearest friend (more like family) has died.

Memories are so important because really in something like this, they are all you have. I know we will meet again someday in Heaven, but right now we are a part.

My favorite thing about this person (withheld the name for privacy reasons) was that he loved anything cowboy! He loved horses, watching westerns, riding around (even if it was just to the local Target). He was a very special person. He and his wife have always shown the love of the Father really to the extent of me wondering if they were angels. I won't be surprised if I find they were/are.

I would like to ask you to pray for his family and friends please. This is a tough time, but God has a plan and I'm holding onto His promises. Thank you very much! Have a blessed weekend.

Too Different?

I've been thinking about this a lot and I think it's time to mention it.

Recently a really good friend of mine and I have been talking a lot. She goes to church every Sunday and loves it. However, the people in the church don't seem to love her. They are... well rude. It hurts me for a lot of reasons. One) I'm really close to this person. 2) We as the body of believers are supposed to treat others with love. 3) If that's how they treat someone who's been going to their church for years, then how do they treat strangers?

I've spoken on many occasions to this person and asked her if she learns and grows and matures at this church. The answer has been vague, but for the most part I would say no, she doesn't. When she goes to  this church, she walks in, not very a talkative person, and no one even bothers to try and have a conversation. The people who do talk with her think everything she says is stupid or "not cool". I've told her maybe she needs to stop going there and find a good, loving, church home but she's not sure. She thinks everyone will think she isn't "interesting". She thinks she's too different. She's not. God created us in His image, if we're not good enough for someone, that's okay, that's their bad, God thinks we are so good enough for Him and that really is all that matters! :)

My response to her has been and always will be, I love her. I don't want people to treat like that and if they are what they call themselves, followers of Jesus, then they wouldn't treat like that. Sure, we all have off days, bad days, etc. because we are not perfect just forgiven (hence the name of my blog), but I know for sure that if I treat someone like that I try to apologize and make sure I don't do it again. We will always fail, but it never ever hurts to try.

This post is for the people out there who have the same situation. If this is the way your Church (youth group or whatever) treats you, you may want to consider finding a new church. No one deserves to be treated like. No one.

To my followers of Jesus reading this - please make sure to treat everyone with love. I know it's hard with some people, but we have to try because it's God's will. And when we follow our Father's will good things always happen. Maybe not to you, but definitely for other people. God's will for your life, could be helping someone else find His will for their life. Keep that in mind.

Challenge for the week is just to treat others with as much love as possible. This can be done by simply talking to someone and actually listening. There are so many ways to show the Lord's love, so be creative and love somebody! We need each other. We need Jesus! Have a blessed day!!

Happy Fourth of July!!!

Happy Fourth of July!!!

I always love the Fourth for a lot of reasons. I am thankful for being free. Free in Christ and free in this beautiful Country of ours. There are many things here in the United States that aren't good, but there are just as many things that are you just have to keep your eyes open. :) I love grilling out, eating (ha ha), spending time watching shows on our men and women in the armed forces, watching fireworks and just enjoying time with the people around me.

I want to thank the incredible people who fight for our Freedom everyday. You are so special and truly appreciated! Thank you for everything you do.

I pray you have a wonderful Fourth and that you spend a little time thinking about how we truly are blessed in so many ways. :) Jesus loves you!

Our God

Well summer is here. Ha! As if I needed to tell anybody in the 90 degree heat. But I'm not complaining, I actually love the hot weather. :)

I have been spending a lot of time outside to say the least. Soaking up the sun and looking around at the Lord's beauty. I am absolutely awestruck by how much beauty is around me. Sometimes I just wonder how you can look around and not believe. However, that's a different topic for a different day.

I have recently been listening to Chris Tomlin's song, "Our God". I absolutely love that song. Every time I look around that song just comes singing in my head because it is so true. Our God truly is greater and stronger and higher than ANY other. He is Indescribable.

I wanted to share the song with you because it truly speaks my heart to the Lord. Here's a video I found that I thought was pretty cool...

Shine the Light of Jesus around you! Have a blessed Tuesday!

Come On In....

"Come on in, you're always welcome" - Church Billboard

That is what I saw on a  Church billboard that I passed yesterday. I thought that was really amazing and welcoming to see outside. The only problem I had was, sometimes that's not the way people feel inside the Church.

I've been to several different churches. All the people are nice and stuff, but sometimes I just don't see people who genuinely love the people (the believers, the Church, etc) that are around them. I have been guilty of this before, thankfully then and now anytime I start judging those people the Lord gently rebukes me and reminds me that we are all sinners looking to our Savior.

It would be so awesome if the feelings inside our hearts for people were in fact, "come on in, you're always welcome." We'd be fulfilling the Lord's will by just loving the people around us. I want to really and truly love the people around me, my problem sometimes is though, that I've been hurt by these same people. Forgiving isn't easy, but forgetting.. well that is even harder. At least for me. Sometimes I just want to hold onto those feelings of hate and anger and bitterness. Not actually realizing that it is hurting me more than that person or anybody else. I guess, you can't really love someone if you have hate towards them, right? So the best possibility is to let go of the anger and hate and allow the Lord to heal your heart so that you can actually love them.

My point is that the Father has called us to love one another as ourselves. If we can't let go of the hate we have for others or for even ourselves, then we cannot love. Let's stand together as the body of Christ and truly love Him and love others. Let our attitudes be, "Come on in, you're always welcome." Have a blessed day!! :)

The Light Is Coming

Lately I have been waking up at early morning. You know, 3:00 am and 4:00 am and God has been teaching me something through that.

Each morning I just sit there listening for the next.. well however long I can stay awake. haha And I just let my thoughts come as they come and go as they go. Something I've noticed is that the birds will start chirping about 30 minutes before the sun starts to come up. So any morning that I wake up and see that it's still dark, but the birds are singing then I know that the sun will be up soon.

The Lord showed me something that I want to share with you; in  the crisis that you may be in or the difficult situation the Light is on it's way. Jesus is right there with you, holding your hand and trying to tell you that everything will be okay. Listen to Him because God has a greater plan for all of our lives that none of us can truly see unless we listen to His voice and know in our hearts that His truth is truth and it will all be okay.

My reminder to you on this Monday is listen for the birds 'cause the Son is on His way. The Light is coming. Your are going to be just fine. Jeremiah 29:11 says so, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." Stay blessed!

My head has been buzzing for a long time now. So much running through it, it's almost hard to process all of it. Here are some of the thoughts I am thinking about...

I am thankful to be alive. God has blessed me with a life that I will not.. could not waste. Life is so precious. Once you've had a near death experience and see what a true gift it is, you can never be the same. Why waste your life by partying, drinking, and living for that next high? Is it really that fun hanging over the toilet throwing up after a hard night? Matt Pitt said this, "People always say, 'you only live once' right, so we have to get it right now because we only have one chance." We're all looking for love for sure, but let me tell you that love is not in that bottle it's in Jesus. Once you find His love, you'll never be the same.. ever!

Why do people lie to each other? Why do we inflict pain on our closest friends? Family members? That is such a shame. We hurt the people we love the most. It would be so much easier to just keep our mouths closed, rather than open them and harm a friend. "A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction." - Proverbs 16:23

Do I truly know how to love? 1 Corinthians 13 tells me what love is and as I'm reading I'm thinking, if this love do I love people or just strongly like them? Jesus, teach me to love truly with all my heart.

That's just a few of my thoughts that I decided to share. Feel free to share any of your thoughts. Would love to hear about them. :) Have a wonderful weekend!!

The Noticer

I just finished reading 'The Noticer' by Andy Andrews, well, actually I finished it a few days ago but I've had a crazy week. ;) Anyways, if you are looking for a great book to read this summer I highly recommend reading this one.

This book really does give a different perspective or view of the ways things are and the situations we face. I had such a wonderful time reading this book. God used this book to help my heart see things in a whole other way. For that I am thankful.

Definitely go pick up this book if you have the chance to. I think everyone would have a better life if they had their eyes opened a bit and a different perspective to go on. Have a wonderfully blessed weekend!

Preston Plevretes

I watched this video and it just broke my heart. If you know anyone who is an athlete maybe pass this video on, definitely need more education on concusions and what they can do to people if not treated properly.

Let's pray for this young man as he goes through this horrible time. God is with him. :) Stay blessed!

What Difference Do It Make?

I just finished reading this book. It is the second book by Ron Hall & Denver Moore (you can read my review on their first book here ) and it was just an incredible book.

It's funny because I was wondering what had happened since the first book and this just picks it up and lets you know what they've been doing since Same Kind of Difference As Me.

God showed me through this book how important forgiveness is and how important it is to hang in there with people even when it's tough. It's just simply amazing what God can do with one faithful heart. Denver Moore is one amazing man. I think that if anyone didn't know he had been homeless no one would ever guess. He is a very wise soul and has much to share without having to use a bunch of words. His actions are truly the way he shows his faith.

I encourage you to read this book and if you haven't read the first, pick that one up too. :) They will bless your heart and God will show you things that maybe you've never thought about. Have a blessed Tuesday! Below is the introduction to 'What Difference Do It Make' so read on! ;)

Hello again.

If you’re reading this book, it might be because you already have read Same Kind of Different as Me, a true story about my wife, Deborah, and the man who changed our lives, Denver Moore. If you haven’t, don’t worry—we’ve included enough of the story to catch you up. (The “catch up” sections from Same Kind of Different as Me are in italics.)

Since June 2006, when Same Kind of Different as Me snuck first onto bookstore shelves, then onto the New York Times bestsellers list, Denver and I have traveled thousands of miles back and forth across America. We’ve spoken at hundreds of venues, from local book clubs filled with sweet little old ladies to the Bethesda, Maryland, symphony hall. (We were in Bethesda as guests of Doro Bush Kock and her mother, former first lady Barbara Bush, who quite possibly is Denver’s biggest fan.) Throughout that time, we have seen thousands of lives changed—homeless shelters started and millions of dollars raised for the homeless, yes, but also astonishing changes in the lives of everyday Americans that we never could’ve imagined or predicted.

That’s why we wrote this book, to tell you just a few of the stories of hope and redemption that God continues to write in the lives of so many—and in our own.

One day in the spring of 2009, as we were writing, I was in the kitchen at the Murchison estate, where Denver and I live, on a conference call with executives at Thomas Nelson, our publisher. During the call, Denver walked in.

“Hey, Denver,” I said, putting the call on speaker. “We’re talking about titles for the new book. Got any ideas?”

“Title for the new book?” he said, screwing his eyelids down into his famous hard squint. “What difference do it make?”

“What Difference Do It Make?” I said. “That’s it!”

Denver shrugged and walked off, shaking his head.

It was the perfect title. Since Same Kind came out, over and over, like the needle stuck in the groove of an old vinyl record, we’ve repeated a single message: one person can make a difference. My wife, Deborah Hall, is proof of that.

As many of you know, God took Deborah in 2001. Cancer. But if she were here today, she would tell you she was nobody special. If you had come to our house, she would have made you fresh coffee or tea and invited you to sit down at the kitchen table and tell her about yourself. And you would have felt loved. Because that was Deborah’s gift. She loved God and, because of her intimate walk with Him, loved people. Her whole life was about forgiveness and unconditional love, two qualities that most of us find difficult to master on a regular basis.

It really was that simple. Deborah’s life showed that kind of love is attainable for anyone willing to put in the time on their knees, then overcome their fear and go out and get their hands a little dirty. And I have talked to literally hundreds of people who told me that Deborah’s story inspired them to do just that. Through the difference her life made, others are now making a difference, and that’s in part what this book is about. It’s packed full with stories folks have shared with us about how Deborah’s example inspired them to do more, both in their own homes and in their communities.

A lady named Ann, for example, wrote to us from Vivian, a small Louisiana town just north of Shreveport—not too far from Red River Parish, where Denver worked the plantations. Ann wrote of how she loaned Same Kind of Different as Me to about twenty different friends. Every friend who brings it back has a very different story about how the story affected him or her.

“One person notices the friendship Denver and Ron share,” Ann wrote. “Another feels shame over the way her grandparents treated the ‘Denvers’ in their lives.”

The woman surprised Ann by telling her that the portion of the book that dealt with Deborah’s cancer battle stirred her to go and have a colonoscopy she’d been putting off!

Like Ann, we’ve been struck by the amazing variety of stories people tell us about how Debbie’s story affected them. Here we thought we were writing a book about one woman’s determination to make a difference for the homeless, and we started getting letters about marriages restored, friendships renewed, ministries begun, even babies adopted!

In Fort Worth, a high school teacher named Carin told us that, “unbelievably,” she’d been able to get the school administration to approve our book to be read by her entire mental-health class. “The students have learned how so many issues affect our mental health,” Carin wrote. “I have also used the book to help relay to them the importance of community involvement, passion, and what it means to be a servant to others.”

Shortly after Deborah died, her best friend, Mary Ellen, told me that God had whispered to her during prayer that Deborah was like the kernel of wheat Jesus refers to in the gospel of John: “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”

Mary Ellen told me she thought that maybe Deborah’s death would be like that—fruitful. I cannot even express how much I absolutely did not want to hear that at the time. But it appears that Mary Ellen was right, more right than even she knew.

She told me about the wheat kernel just a couple of days before the dedication of the Deborah L. Hall Memorial Chapel, the new worship facility built at the Union Gospel Mission in my wife’s honor and funded by donations that poured in after local folks heard Denver’s story at her memorial service. At the time, we thought the chapel, along with the new care facilities for the homeless, were the fruit God would bring from my wife’s death. I had no idea that the Union Gospel Mission was just the first fruit in what would become a cornucopia of blessing.

Take Detra, for example. Detra, who lives in Austin, Texas, wrote to tell us that after reading Deborah’s story, she decided to start carrying food and socks and blankets in her car so that she can bless the homeless. Also, her church had a picnic in an Austin park and had so much food that they began feeding hungry people who were in the park that day.

One little girl asked Detra, “When are you coming back?”

After that, the church made the picnic a monthly event where church members sit down and break bread with the homeless.

Would I take back blessings like that one and those you are about to read about in this book? If I could rewind time like a video and create a cancer story with a happy ending, would I?

I’m sorry to say there’s a big part of me that says, “Yes! I want my wife back!”

But I can tell you without reservation that Deborah would say, “No, Ron. I’ll see you soon.”

And so the story goes on—men and women all over the country inspired by the story of Denver and Deborah to make a difference in other people’s lives. Over the past three years, I thought I was making a difference too—traveling and speaking all over the country, “carrying Miss Debbie’s torch,” as Denver calls it. And I suppose I was.

But in 2009, I learned that sometimes the most difficult difference to make is the one that’s closest to home.

Loving On My Bad Days

So the Lord has been teaching me so much this month about one thing in particular... loving and blessing people.

Oh, how I truly desire to be a blessing to people and to simply love them like Jesus does. However, when I'm tired, annoyed, angry, frustrated, worn out, etc. I just don't want to. The selfish part of my heart just wants to focus on myself and block out the rest of the world. Sadly I miss a lot of opportunities to love and bless people just because I'm having a bad day or an "off" day.

God has been teaching me that even when I'm having not so great of a day my attitude can still be right. "Happiness is a choice." More times than not that is true. If someone has depression or something along those lines then happiness a lot of times isn't possible until they work through what they are depressed over, but if we are just grumpy or upset because it's Monday, then we can turn that around ourselves just by making the simple choice to be happy.

This month I've been focusing on having the right attitude and knowing that regardless of how my day is going God is right there holding my hand and I can trust that He will work everything out. That really makes my day. I know if it makes my day then I should pass that along so it can make someone else's day too. There's a girl who always says, "A blessing is not a blessing unless it's shared." I find that to be true. I can keep a blessing all to myself and really not be blessed, but when I pass it on then I feel that the blessing is complete.

This week I want to just love people and bless regardless of how good or bad my day is. Can you really be a true follower of Christ if the only time you fulfill His plan is when your day is good? I don't think so. Being a follower of Jesus is a 24/7  365 days a year commitment. You don't get to pick and choose, you either are or you aren't and sometimes that can be a difficult thing to think about (however it is necessary). I just challenge myself and you to love on people and be a blessing this week (and everyday) no matter what your day is like. I know it's hard.. believe me I know it's hard, but when you get your reward in Heaven you'll know it worth it. God is by your side. Stay near Him. Have a blessed weekend!

Same Kind of Different As Me

I just finished one of the most amazing books. Same Kind of Different As Me by Denver Moore & Ron Hall is one incredible book. God touched my heart so much while I was reading this book.

Denver Moore was a homeless man, who had never been to school, didn't know how to read, and therefore never read a book, but while I was reading this book the amount of wisdom he has is just incredible. Definitely God is using this man to touch people.

Ron Hall was a wealthy man who sold paintings for a living and had a beautiful wife named Deborah. Little did either one of these men know that that woman would bring the two together and they would build a friendship that lasts forever.

While I read this book I laughed, cried (more like sobbed), thought, etc. It was just an amazing book. I encourage all of you to get this book. God showed me what real faith looks like, that homeless people aren't always as they may appear, reaching out to someone could very well lead them to the Lord and many other things. This book is worth your time and money so please get it. Be sure to pass it along too, because it is a book that I think each person in this world needs to read. Have a blessed week!! Jesus loves you!

Armed Forces Day

I just wanted to thank the men and women of the Armed Forces past & present for all that y'all have done for our Country and our freedom. I thank God for people like you! God bless you!!

Please take some time today to pray for our soldiers. Thank you so much!! Have a blessed and wonderful weekend! :)

Start Here

I just finished reading 'Start Here' by Alex & Brett Harris. This book is something you can read right now (if you haven't read 'Do Hard Things') or you can read after you have read Do Hard Things (which is the way it's intended).

When I read 'Do Hard Things', blog post here, I was so excited because I had never really thought of any of the things the guys wrote about, but then I was left questioning, what is a hard thing? Does have to be big? Have I done hard things in the past? And then the boys wrote this book. It's purpose is to help people find the hard things God desires for them to do.

While I read this book God revealed many truths to me. I'm still processing all of it. I would recommend this book to people who really want to know what God wants them to do. It will help you narrow down what talents you have and how you can use them to bring God glory and help bring others to Him. Definitely a great book and you should definitely read it.  :) Have a blessed Monday!!!

Race Doesn't Matter

"So God created man in His image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." - Genesis 1:27

Oh, I really cannot stand what has happened to the way people view one another. I don't know if this has just happened in the last few years or if it has always been this way, but regardless of when it began it needs to stop now.

I'm talking about the race factor. I'm so tired of the way we treat one another simply because of the color of their skin. Black, white, red, yellow, whatever! Does it really matter? Do you think God looks at us and says, "Well I will bless him more because he is _______ (choose color)."? I certainly don't.

The Bible tells us that we are created in His image. Not yours, not mine, but HIS. Each one of us on this earth has a little piece of the Lord in us. He created us in His likeness and I don't think He wants us to treat one another as if only certain crowds have been created in His image. We all are! That's the beauty of the differences we have, we still have one thing that brings us together... Jesus! The color of our skin doesn't matter. If we are all coming together as the body of Christ and fulfilling His plan for us, who cares if you're white or black or brown?

I challenge myself to not pay any attention to color of skin, but to really see people... to see their hearts and personalities. To see their hurt and their love. To see them for who they are in Christ Jesus. Would join in with me? If we are the change, we can change the world. Our examples can make a HUGE difference and impact. Let's follow God's Word and simply love regardless. Might be hard, but well worth it!!! Have a wonderfully blessed weekend!

Why Is It SO Hard?

Why is it so hard?

"What?" You may be asking. Life. Why is life so hard? Why does it have to be so difficult and why does it have to be so draining?

I have been asking myself this the last few days. I have been dealing with a lot of stressful situations and have been trying to trust the Lord the best I possibly can, but still I question why it has to be so hard.

The Lord answered my question on Wednesday. He said, "Life can be hard, yes, but it is so you will appreciate the hard work you have put in and not take your blessings for granted." Yes. That is exactly why life is so hard.

Sure, situations come along all the time for every person on this Earth that are hard and difficult. Situations that lead to blood, sweat, tears, hate, love, etc. I've been thinking over some of the things I've been through that have been hard and really looking back I have found that I really have to appreciate and be thankful for the things that I worked hard for and the things that God has given to me. It helps me appreciate both what I work for and what I don't work for.

It's kind of like when a woman gives birth, it is painful while you are going through it, but once you see that little face (or in this case, that hard work that paid off) you forget all about the pain and simply love.

I am reminded of this verse in Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." Whatever you do. Not just the good times and not just the bad, but whatever you are doing or going through work at it with all your heart as if you are working for the Lord (which really, that is what we are doing) and not for men.

I encourage you to continue in your hard work. Whatever it may be. Maybe losing those last few pounds or trying to get a promotion or taking care of your family, continue in those difficult and trying times because when you finally lose those last few pounds, land that promotion or make it through the difficult time with your family you'll appreciate all that work and you'll also appreciate what God has given you. God bless you!!!
